Liverpool coach Gerard Houllier believes that England's star striker Michael Owen is a severe doubt for the forthcoming friendly match against Denmark at Old Trafford...Sven names his squad here on TheFA.com on Monday...
Houllier will not be including the hit-man for Liverpool's trip to Bucharest on Thursday in the hope that his shin injury will have recovered in time for the big game against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
"This is a different injury to the one he had against Arsenal," said Houllier.
"Maybe he could play on Thursday in Bucharest, but I do not want to take the risk.
"I do not gamble with his health, and if he stays behind for treatment he should be okay for the United match.
"But I doubt he will make it for England."
Obviously Sven will be hoping to have his premier marksman fit for the meeting with Denmark having not had him available for the Turkey game but, if Owen does not make it, there may be a striker's slot up for grabs in the squad.
In-form strikers Alan Smith and Jermain Defoe will be two of those hoping that their early season goals will have been enough to catch Sven's eye.
TheFA.com will bring you first news of Sven's squad on Monday.
