After a difficult week off the field, England took to the pitch in the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul tonight and achieved exactly what was required.
A solid team performance helped the Three Lions earned the point needed to top Group 7 and book the nation's place in Euro 2004. The FA's Chief Executive Mark Palios expressed his delight this evening when he spoke to TheFA.com after the game... "Tonight's performance was magnificent, the players and coaching staff deserve huge credit remaining focussed and professional at the end of a long and challenging week," said Palios.
"We are thrilled to have reached Euro 2004 as winners of Group 7, and now look forward to next summer in Portugal.
"I'd also like to thank the England fans for listening to The FA, the government and police advice and staying at home," he added.
"The fans support throughout this campaign has been magnificent, and tonight they played an important role in making sure this match passed off peacefully and successfully.
"Tonight belongs to the players, coaches, staff and fans."
