Session 5 - 11

SESSION: master the ball and your body

In this session, Pete Sturgess, FA national lead 5-11, outlines the benefits of helping young players to stay on the ball.

    Key objectives

    Develop player understanding of:

    • how to use creative and clever play to protect the ball from the opposition
    • recognising danger and using the body to protect the ball
    • the benefits of staying on the ball rather than playing the easy pass
    • how to identify space to move into.

    QUESTIONS
After you have watched this, ask yourself the following questions:

    • How would you adapt or tweak the practice to make it appropriate to your own players?
    • What additional challenges could you set to make the practice easier or harder for individuals or your group?
