England Team Staff
Hope Powell Head Coach
In 2003 Hope became the first woman to achieve the UEFA Pro Licence - the highest coaching award available.
Taking charge in 1998, Hope's achievements to date include taking the U19s to the semi-finals of the 2002 and 2003 UEFA Women’s Championship, and to the quarter-finals of the inaugural FIFA U19 World Championship in 2002.
She also coached the senior team to qualification for the 2001 UEFA European Championship Finals in her first major championship as manager and in June 2005, narrowly failed to take the Three Lions into the semi-finals of the European Championship on home soil.
In 2002 Hope was awarded an OBE and is patron of the Kick It Out campaign and the Women’s Sports Foundation, as well as being an ambassador for Special Olympics.
As well as managing the England Senior team, she oversees the England set-up from U15s to U21s, The FA’s National Player Development Centre at Loughborough University and a coach mentoring scheme. Brent Hills Assistant Head Coach
Brent originally trained as a Physical Education teacher at Culham College, Oxford, in the mid-Seventies after coaching a local boys club in Fulham. Brent's playing career saw him play for Kingstonian FC and Feltham FC in the Isthmian League at right-back.
Brent has various coaching experience including Chapman University College (California), Brentford FC, Millwall FC, Watford FC and Fulham FC. He lectured in Sports and Exercise Science at Southbank University and Southwark College, where he started the first English female college football academy in 1998 (of which Kate Chapman was a player).
He holds the UEFA Pro Licence, the UEFA A Licence, the FA Level 5 Psychology in Football Diploma, an M.Sc. in Sports Coaching (Brunel University) and is an FA Coach Education Diploma Holder.
Misia Gervis Sports Psychologist
After a degree in Psychology, Misia went to America to take a post-graduate degree in Sport Psychology. After working as an international gymnastics coach, Misia became a Lecturer at Brunel University, becoming Deputy Head of the School for Sport & Education.
She has worked with international sprinters, as well as with coaches and sports people in tennis, fencing and yachting. Misia has worked with the England Women’s Senior team since the Summer of 2004, providing psychological support for players and working to help develop the mental side of their game.
She is also currently a senior lecturer at Brunel University where she lectures on applied sport psychology and coaching programmes.
Tracy Lewis Physiotherapist
Tracy qualified in 1998 from the University of East London. Her career first saw her working for the NHS Enfield Primary Care Trust, whilst also providing physiotherapy support for female players at Leyton Orient FC’s Centre of Excellence.
Since 2004, Tracy has worked as an itinerant physio with the England Women’s U19 and Senior team whilst studying for an MSc in Sports Injury Management at Manchester Metropolitan University.
In October 2006 she started the full-time position as Female International Chartered Physiotherapist at The FA, overseeing physiotherapy for all female international age groups.
Keith Rees Goalkeeping Coach
Keith is a UEFA licensed Coach who first got involved in the women’s game at Liverpool Community College, coaching Goalkeepers at U19 and U21 level. In the 2001-02 season he travelled to France with the U19s as Goalkeeping Coach and then began working with the Seniors, including working at Euro 2005 and during the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
For the past ten years he has been working as Assistant Goalkeeping coach at Everton Football Club’s Youth Academy with the 9-16 year age group, and for The FA, Keith is also involved in the identification and development of young Goalkeepers between 9-16.
Pippa Bennett Team Doctor
Pippa has worked with the England teams since 1999, overseeing the medical care of all female squads. She has been with the senior squad for both 2001 and 2005 European Championships. Pippa has also worked with the England women’s hockey team and at the World University Games in 2005. She also sits on the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine executive committee.
Dawn Scott Exercise Scientist Dawn graduated from Aberdeen with a postgraduate degree in Sports Nutrition, prior to completing a degree in Sports Science at Manchester Metropolitan University. She previously worked as a lecturer at University College Worcester.
Dawn’s role is to assess and monitor the fitness levels of the Senior, U15, U17, U19 and U21 female England squads, as well as implementing training programmes for the players at The FA’s National Player Development Centre.
She also provides support during training and matches, ensuring players warm-up and cool down properly. Dawn also oversees the players’ diet, nutrition and hydration.
Phil Worrall Video Analyst
Phil graduated with a Sports Science Degree in 1998 specialising in Biomechanics and Technique Analysis. He spent four years working with the England Netball team as their Performance Analyst, including at World Championship and the Commonwealth Games. Phil has also worked with other sports including Rugby League and athletics.
Phil started working for The FA in 2001 and is a Senior Analyst within The FA’s Performance Analysis Unit. He has supported all of The FA’s Elite International Teams, both Male and Female and was an integral part of the Performance Analysis Support during the 2006 World Cup.
