Togo
Togo caused a sensation in qualifying when they topped a group that included Senegal - the team that shocked the world by beating holders France in their opening game four years ago.
Apart from one defeat against Zambia, Togo were unbeaten on the road to Germany, thanks largely to Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor who netted 11 times.
That made him the top goalscorer in the entire African zone, ably assisted by Oulfade Adekanmi.
Togo are not even historically strong on their own continent. They have played in five African Nations Cup Finals, but have never been in contention for the trophy.
Coach Otto Pfister only took over recently when Stephen Keshi was dismissed, but he then quit the side on the day of the opening ceremony throwing Togo's plans into disarray.
