Manager Jose Pekerman is hoping to lead Argentina to their first World Cup triumph in 20 years.

They were the first team to qualify from the South America zone, although they ultimately finished runners-up behind Brazil on goal difference.

Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo was their top scorer in qualifying with seven goals, while Juan Riquelme, the star of unfancied Villarreal’s run to the Champions League semi-finals, pulls the strings in midfield.

Argentina have reached the final of four World Cups, lifting the trophy twice and finishing runners-up on the other two occasions.
