Crouch and Owen played a major role in helping England record an impressive 6-0 win over Jamaica and give the Three Lions a perfect send-off before the tournament in Germany gets underway.

Crouch is going from strength to strength while Owen managed to get 90 minutes under his belt and was back among the goals at Old Trafford.

Lampard also managed to get his name on the scoresheet, but it was the England strike duo that impressed him the most and hopes they can carry that form into the World Cup.

Lampard said: "Peter Crouch and Michael Owen play off each other really well. Peter is a very intelligent player and a great target man. Michael likes to get in behind the defence and it was nice to see them link up well together.

"It was great for Michael to score for his own confidence. But he is a top class player and would have gone to the World Cup and scored goals regardless of if he had scored against Jamaica.

"I think Peter deserves all the credit he is getting at the moment. People are not just seeing that Crouchy is a very good player but seeing the character from within.

"He is a great lad and always has a smile on his face which is a good thing because it helps for everyone watching him play. He is great for team spirit and you need characters like that.

"You have to forget about his size and stature and remember he has got great touch, great feet and a clever brain. I think him and Michael suit each other really well."

Lampard says his team-mates cannot get too carried away with the win over Jamaica as they begin preparations for the opening World Cup game against Paraguay in Frankfurt.

But he was delighted that Head Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson was able to record a win in his last game in charge on English soil.

Lampard added: "We cannot get carried away with this result - 6-0 is a good result, but we will come up against tougher opposition in the World Cup. It was just a nice send-off.

"It is really pleasing to get a victory in Sven’s last game in charge in England. He has done a great job since he took over and has been here quite a period of time.

"He has got a great record in the games we have played and it was nice for him to have his moment with the fans at the end of the game."
