Frank Lampard says he wants to remain as England's penalty taker despite seeing his effort saved on Tuesday.

Frank Lampard is convinced that England will be ready to change their formation whenever needed at the World Cup this summer and Sven-Goran Eriksson knows exactly what he is doing in the build-up to the showpiece tournament in Germany.

England changed their tactics to a 4-5-1 formation against Hungary in the last friendly and Lampard feels the opposition will be kept guessing at the World Cup over which way the Threee Lions are going to play.

Eriksson is clearly keeping his options open with Jamie Carragher taking up a holding midfield role during the 3-1 victory at Old Trafford.

That could all change again when England face their last friendly against Jamaica on Saturday and Lampard says the players have to be ready for a change in formation when it comes to the World Cup.

Lampard added: “I thought the formation worked pretty well against Hungary and I don't know what people were expecting.

“I read a lot about a change and people calling to go back to 4-4-2. It is not a bad thing if teams don't know how we're going to play.

“It is a good thing to have doubt in the opposition’s mind. We have to try different things and we know what we're doing. We need to go into the World Cup playing more than one way.

“I have complete confidence in our manager. You have to remember the quality of the man. We believe in him and he's managed at top level for years. I don't see it as a weakness that we've tried different formations.

“It's something we've spoken about in the past and now we have options to play different teams. The onus is then on the manager to use right system at right time and I believe he will do that.”

Whatever formation Eriksson decides to employ during the World Cup, Lampard feels the team have enough quality to go all the way and make it a summer to remember for English football.

Lampard still feels the hurt of being left out of the last World Cup in 2002 and is determined to make up for that disappointment in Germany this summer.

Lampard added: “I feel a lot of confidence in the players around me in midfield, Steven Gerrard, David Beckham and Joe Cole for what they've done. However we set up I've got a lot of confidence.

“I think you can see that not just in the team but in the squad. A lot of players are on top of their game and believing we can win. It’s important to have that belief or you will struggle.

“The last World Cup for me seems a million miles away and so much has happened. I don't forget the hurt of not going and the fact I am going to play a part in this one makes it more sweet.

“It drives me on, that disappointment. I'm not far off 28 and I know there won't be many World Cups. I'm hungry and confident now that we can really make something of this tournament.”

Lampard will never forget meeting up with Prince William after he visited England’s pre-World Cup training base in Manchester on Thursday.

The Chelsea midfielder says it was hilarious to see Peter Crouch show off his ‘robotic dance’ to the Prince and says it was an enjoyable afternoon for everyone in the squad.

He said: “It was very good to see Prince William and Crouchy broke the ice. I was very impressed with him as a man. He is younger than me but the way he carries himself and the ease with which he talked to the lads was unbelievable.

“I've got a lot of respect for him and we were dumbfounded at what a special man he's going to be.”
