England captain David Beckham has declared himself delighted with the 3-1 victory over Hungary.
Becks was in superb form for the Three Lions on Tuesday night, setting up two of England’s goals with outstanding crosses.
Now he is looking forward to Saturday’s final pre-World Cup friendly against Jamaica - and then of course the big tournament itself.
He said: “We won and we’re free of injuries so we have to be happy with everything. I certainly think we’re happy with the team performance, especially the second half.
“Fitness wise the game was important and we have come off the pitch with no new injuries as well. It’s also given us a boost confidence wise, which always happens when you win games. That’s crucial going into such a big competition.
“I was also happy with my assists but that’s my job, to put balls in and set goals up.”
Beckham was especially impressed with Liverpool star Steven Gerrard, who was asked to play up front in a new look England attack.
“It was very good,“ said Becks. “You have to experiment and you have to try different options. Some people might say it’s too late to experiment but this is what friendlies are for, you have to try different players in different formations. And it’s worked.
“Whether it’s plan A or plan B is down to the manager, that’s nothing to do with me. But Steven is a great player. His fitness is great, he’s had a great season with Liverpool and I think it worked well tonight. He’s a great defender but I think he’s better going forward. He can get on the ball and we have that option now.
“We have different options with Peter Crouch as well. First half Steven Gerrard has the strength and pace to run through teams. Then Crouch came on we had something different. It’s good for the team.”
