Eriksson is receiving constant updates on the progress of his injured players and has welcomed the return of Sol Campbell to the Arsenal side ahead of their crunch Champions League game against Villarreal on Tuesday night and the possible return of Michael Owen to the Newcastle side this weekend.

He said: "Our doctor [Dr Leif Sward] is travelling to different clubs, he went to Charlton yesterday (Monday) and to Tottenham on Wednesday to check the situations. We know when the league finishes exactly what to do.

"Of course, it's a worry. Take Ledley King for example - he won't play more football this season, then we'll have to take a decision on when he is going to be fit and in full training and how long it will take.

"But I'm very happy Sol Campbell is playing tonight and I think Michael Owen will sit on the bench and hopefully have some minutes this coming weekend. It's a rather good situation."

With just over three weeks until he names his World Cup squad, Eriksson is confident his side will have a memorable tournament if he can get through the last round of Premiership matches on 7 May without players picking up injuries.

He said: "If all of them were fit, 100 per cent, then I would be almost sure of up to 21 or 22 of them.

"But what I have to deal with from now until 8 May and 15 May, when the final squad must be announced to Fifa, is the injury situation.

"Knowing that most of the injuries in the Premier League come in the last two-and-a-half or three months of the season because of tiredness, of course I hope, fingers crossed, there are no more injuries. I've always said we will do a great World Cup if we have most of the players fit."
