Lincoln City Ladies cruised into the quarter finals of the FA Women's Cup by crushing Southern Division counterparts Portsmouth 5-1.
A hat-trick from Northern division top scorer Jodie Snelson, and one apiece from Megan Harris, and Carla Ward were enough to seal Lincoln a quarter-final place.
It took 15 minutes for Snelson to open Lincoln’s account and on the half hour Snelson struck again, this time from a mix-up at the back between the keeper and her left-back.
Portsmouth got themselves back into the game when Brooke Chaplen lofted a high dipping ball which just beat the fingertips of City goalie Kay Hawke. But on the stroke of half time, Snelson gave her side a valuable 3-1 lead when she latched onto a cross and fired a beauty past the helpless diving 'keeper.
Early in the second period Portsmouth gave away a penalty for a push in the back, which Megan Harris converted with ease and Carla Ward fired a blistering shot into the roof of the net to make the final score 5-1 to the home side.
In the shock of the day, Newcastle United Women had to come from 3-1 down to beat National league side Watford on penalties in London. After taking an early lead through an own goal by Hornets 'keeper Houlihan, the visitors found themselves 2-1 down at half time following goals by Thomas and Lander.
Things seemed to get worse on 64 minutes when Hincks fired in the third from a cross, but The Toon oon never gave up and Elaine Sedgewick volleyed home on 83 minutes to pull a goal back.
On 85 minutes a 30 yard strike from Julie Twaddle made it 3-3 and with few clear cut chances in extra time, both teams had to step up and decide the tie on penalties, with Newcastle emerging the victors 2-1 on penalties, with Toon 'keeper Helen Kane the heroine.
