Coventry City Ladies will host their FA Women's Cup sponsored by E.ON Third Round tie against Wolves at the Ricoh Arena, marking an historic first for the women's team.
Sky Blue chairman David Singleton said: " This is a great coup for Coventry City Ladies FC and for Womens' football in general. The Ricoh Arena is a magnificent stadium and presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Ladies game to a wider audience.
"The team are enjoying a good season so far. Third in the table, progressing well in the Birmingham County Cup and a tasty fixture here at the Ricoh. This is thanks to the determination of Coaches Stuart Wilson and Neil Wilson.
"This game isn't just about 90 minutes of football either but about many of the younger players too. The mascots have been selected from our U10s, the half-time penalty shoot out will come from the U12s, and ball girls will come from the U14s and U16s."
The Sky Blues have reached the Third Round after victories over Lichfield Diamonds and Rushden & Diamonds, with a stunning strike from Mel Byrne on 74 minutes sealing a 1-0 victory in the Second Round.
The club are currently third in the Midlands Combination League, and with Wolves in the FA Women's Premier League Northern Division, a giant-killing could be on the cards for the home side who were only formed in 1991.
In the last fifteen years, Coventry City Ladies has fast become one of the country’s largest ladies teams. They have a thriving Centre of Excellence organically growing and developing players for the first team and national squads, and a Development Centre who provide a stream of talent for the Centre of Excellence in an environment for players to play football both competitively or for fun.
The club has also built great links with the men’s club and the vision and values for the club extend to all areas; parents are encouraged just to cheer from the touchline, players get involved in fundraising for the club and for the adopted charity ‘Tickled Pink’ and Coaches and staff help to develop not only the players' skill on the pitch, but their own personal development too.
This is a club run by an energetic team of (mainly) volunteers. With costs out stripping revenue by 100% they rely on generous benefactors and sponsors to ensure they are able to provide the best facilities possible.
With the coaches and volunteers sharing a passion to realise the footballing dreams of local children, the club hope that this showpiece game will underline Coventry’s best kept footballing secret and result in greater support for the Ladies as a result.
Kick-off for the Third Round game is 1pm on Sunday 3 December.
Tickets can be bought on the day for just £2.50, or, if you attend the Championship fixture between Coventry City and Stoke City on Saturday 2 December, you will get a pair of tickets free for The FA Women's Cup tie.
