Watch the highlights as Everton continue to put pressure on Charlton and Arsenal at the top of the table. |
Rachel Unitt opened the scoring for Everton with a header as they comfortably won away at Birmingham City to stay in touch with both Arsenal and Charlton at the top of the FA Women's Premier League.
Heather Scheuber scored a fantastic equaliser for Birmingham, following a lofted through ball from Karen Carney Scheuber controlled the ball in the air before volleying past England goalkeeper Rachel Brown.
Everton hit back with another header from a corner, with Everton's other full-back, Becky Easton, this time getting the powerful finish. The match was wrapped up late on, after a dominant display from Everton, with a third goal from Kelly McDougall
Arsenal thumped Sunderland 7-0 yesterday afternoon to stay five points clear at the top of the National Division, although Jayne Ludlow's 35th minute goal was the only difference between the sides at half-time.
Ludlow had then completed her hat-trick eight minutes after the restart, and notched a fourth before Kelly Smith added a brace and Rachel Yankey the other.
Charlton Athletic were 4-1 victors over relegation-threatened Chelsea, who complete their fixtures in a precarious position.
Casey Stoney opened the scoring on 27 minutes, with Sarah Snare doubling the lead within five minutes. Eniola Aluko made it 3-0 on 42 minutes and although Nicki de la Salle netted a late penalty, there was still time for a second goal for Aluko.
Liverpool gifted Blackburn Rovers a chance for the Northern Division championship, as home side Nottingham Forest showed signs of their earlier gifted performances of the season.
Forest hindered Liverpool’s mathematical chance of winning the title, as held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw.
The youth of 14 year old Lynsey Cunningham of Nottingham Forest belied such a comprehensive and mature performance which prevented any left side attack for Liverpool.
Liverpool went into the lead with a looping shot from Thomas in the 39th minute. Forest's efforts were eventually rewarded with another individual long distance effort by Catherine Lawson, via a corner on the 65th minute.
Wolverhampton Wanderers shared four goals with Stockport in a 2-2 draw, a scoreline that was replicated in the match between Tranmere Rovers and lowly Curzon Ashton. Aston Villa remain in sixth place, after a 1-0 win at home to Manchester City.
In the Southern Division, Watford came away from Hornchurch FC with a 4-2 win over West Ham United, which sees them return to the Southern Division top spot, with two games remaining.
Cardiff City were restricted to a point at home to Millwall Lionesses, the 1-1 draw denting the Welsh side's promotion push. AFC Wimbledon went down 2-0 at home to fifth-placed Bristol City.
