Barr left the Addicks for Birmingham City in the summer of 2004, but after failing to find the net with any sort of regularity last season she headed back to the club where she had been a National Division Golden Boot winner.

The 23 year-old striker has immediately resumed that sort of scoring form, hitting four Charlton goals in three outings and also putting her name on the England scoresheet in the recent 4-1 World Cup qualifying win against Austria.

And as she looks ahead to her club team’s Premier League meeting with Fulham on Sunday, Barr is quietly confident that the Addicks can not only win this match but also go on to clinch what in recent years has been an elusive League title.

"It’s been a great start to the season for me and I’m delighted to be back at Charlton," she said. "I enjoyed my time at Birmingham, but I seem to play my best club football under Keith (Boanas, Charlton manager) and hopefully this season will go on as it’s started.

"It’s brilliant for me personally to have got a few goals already, but the most important thing is that as a team we’ve set ourselves up for the season. Our main aim is to win the League and we feel we are capable of doing that."

With champions and main rivals Arsenal out of League action for the next two Sundays due to European commitments, Charlton will go top of the table if they beat Fulham this weekend then Bristol Academy a week later.

Not that Barr, despite the avowed aim of winning the League, is looking that far ahead. "Two seasons ago we were top of the League for practically the whole season but then lost out to Arsenal," she recalled, "so we’ll take absolutely nothing for granted.

"Yes, we’ve got our long term targets, but right now we’re not looking any further ahead than this Sunday. We should be good enough to beat Fulham, but we know that to do it we’ll have to be totally focused and that’s how we must approach the game."
