The Pirates leapt above rivals Leeds with an impressive 2-0 win and thanks to the lack of league action have shot up to second in the National Division.

Rovers left it late but Trudy Williams fired them ahead in the 70th minute before sealing the victory just two minutes later.

A delighted Green said: "We're all in a really good mood. We thought it would be a really competitive meeting but we ended up scoring two in a matter of minutes and if we beat Charlton next week we'll be top for Christmas.

"Anyone who goes to Leeds knows it is going to be tough to get something out of the game and they had some good chances in the first half. But I told the girls at half-time that we just needed to hold on.

"I've said all along that anyone can beat anyone in this league so we'll fancy our chances against Charlton but obviously they'll feel the same."

Everton coach Mo Marley was delighted that her team turned the corner after some disappointing form of late as they dispatched Bristol City 3-1.

Rachel Unitt opened the scoring as she converted a corner in the 11th minute but the visitors had to wait until the 79th minute before they extended their lead.

Jody Handley forced the ball home from close range after some good build-up play from the Toffees.

However they were forced to endure a nervy close to the game after City pulled one back in the 86th minute before Kelly McDougall sealed the victory deep into stoppage time.

Marley said: "We're obviously very pleased with returning to winning ways after some poor results of late.

"I thought we played well in the first half but full credit to Bristol for the way they came back in the second.

"We were back to what we do well which is passing the ball and producing some quality and I was happy that we managed to score some goals."
