Twenty-eight teams will compete in that stage:

The sides will be divided into seven groups of four with the pool winners joining hosts Switzerland in next summer's finals.

The draw for the second qualifying round takes place in Oslo on the afternoon of Wednesday 19 October, with the seven mini-tournaments scheduled to be played between 25 and 29 April 2006.

Hungary, Austria, Sweden, Scotland, Czech Republic, Iceland, Slovakia, Serbia and Montenegro, Ukraine and Norway) from the first qualifying round.

Best third-placed teams (5)

Romania, Wales, Greece, Israel and Slovenia.

Seeded nations (3)

Germany, France and Spain.
