England 5-1 Romania
England Women Under-19s beat hosts Romania 5-1 on Saturday to win Group B6 in the first round of qualifying for the 2004 UEFA U19 European Championships...
Mo Marley's side went unbeaten with a draw against Scotland, a 3-0 win over Ukraine and the final victory against Romania to sail through this first stage.
England U19 now face a second group qualifying round from April 19-25 2004 to reach the Finals, which will be hosted in Finland next summer. Marley's side have faired well in the competition in recent years, reaching the semi-finals for the past two seasons.
England's goals against Romania came from Arsenal's Emma Thomas after two minutes, while late call-up Karen Boyle of Everton netted in the 18th minute and Katie Holtham made it three on 24. But Romania struck back a minute before the break through their striker Pasca.
After the break Michelle Evans grabbed a brace on 61 and 87 minutes to finish off the rout.
