Eni feels that England should be pleased with their results so far with two wins in the World Cup.
An exciting startTuesday, 20 June 2006.
Hello readers
I am not sure about anyone else but I have enjoyed every minute of the last ten days of the World Cup, seeing England advance into the knock out stages after beating Paraguay along with Trinidad and Tobago, still with one game to play today against Sweden.
Personally, it is great to see England advance to the knock out stages irrespective of the performances in the first two games. I am positive that 99 per cent of England fans, if asked before the tournament to choose between great performances without the results or two wins without necessarily great performances, they would definitely have chosen the latter.
The games against Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago did not set the world alight, but hey we’re through! Something I am sure the likes of Ivory Coast and Poland would grab now.
Wayne Rooney’s appearance against Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday was great to see after weeks of speculation on his fitness. It would be interesting to see Rooney start against Sweden with less pressure on England but pressure on Sweden to get a result to secure qualification to the knock out stages.
With the history of Sweden v England games in Sweden’s favour, I would love to see England set the record straight going into the quarter finals full of confidence with a 100% record. It is sure to be a great game.
To name a few, Argentina, Portugal, Ghana and Spain have all been teams who have impressed me so far in the tournament. Argentina’s comprehensive 6-0 win against Serbia and Montenegro especially ‘that goal’ which saw 24 passes leading up to the goal without a touch from a single opposition player displayed the pure football that all football fans would appreciate.
Argentina are looking like the team to beat so far. Can England beat Argentina if they meet in the knock out stages? What do you think?
In the absence of Nigeria, my support of West Africa extends to Ghana, the World Cup newcomers, who have played extremely well recovering from their opening 1-0 defeat to Italy by beating Czech Republic on Saturday. The group is now wide open after the 1-1 draw between USA and Italy.
Top spot for the group may not be very covetted as the group winner is likely to face Brazil in the knock out stages.
Many say the World Cup is not the World Cup until Brazil play but so far, Brazil’s team performance and the surprisingly disappointing performance of one of my favourite players, Ronaldo leave much to be desired.
Ronaldo seems to have fallen out of love with football yet like England, Brazil and Ronaldo would say that getting maximum points so far and advancing to the knock out stages is all that matters. I am confident, Ronaldo can reproduce the same form he did in the 2002 World Cup finals.
As a supporter of Chelsea, I think it is fair to say that the Chelsea players have performed well for their respective countries with four players getting on the score sheet. Joe Cole has been the bright spark so far for England, Crespo has scored twice for Argentina along with Didier Drogba and Arjen Robben scoring for Ivory Coast and Holland respectively.
Not to mention Michael Essien leading the midfield charge of Ghana so far so good.
With the knock out stages coming up I look forward to more exciting football, hopefully involving England advancing to the semi finals.

I would love to see your thoughts so far on the World cup.
Keep watching
Catch you later
