Fulham v Charlton
The FA Women's Cup in partnership with Nationwide
Fifth Round Proper
2pm, Sunday 29 January

Hello readers, Greetings for the New Year.

I had a great Christmas and New Year and hope you all did too. While many of you may have made New Years resolutions to change your lives in some way - all mine involved football!

My main aim is to stay in the England squads and be part of a successful Charlton side that wins all three trophies.

I’d also like to improve on my heading ability, which is not the strongest part of my game.

The year ahead is so exciting I can hardly wait for each of the big events to arrive, the main thing on most people’s mind is the men’s World Cup in Germany.

On a domestic front the ‘nitty gritty’ of the title race is kicking in. With only five league games to go, it is vital for Charlton to win all of them to give us a great chance of finishing champions.

Winning both the Everton and Arsenal games will probably decide the title race but we still have to focus on our other games against Bristol Academy, Chelsea and Birmingham.

The league cup final against Arsenal is just around the corner in March. We will hope to reverse the outcome of last year’s league cup final, which saw Arsenal beat us 3-0.

The aim to keep The FA cup will continue on Sunday against Fulham, which is a game we need to give a good performance in to ensure we move into the next round. Keep your eyes peeled on the site for this weekends FA Cup results.

After watching a lot of football over Christmas and into the New Year, it seems that the most influential England players like Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are all on top form.

Hopefully, Michael Owen will return back to full fitness in time for the first game against Paraguay, it always seems to be the case that England always has injury scares to big players before a World Cup.

The metatarsal injury to David Beckham before World Cup 2002 is another that springs to mind. I am sure that medical team who got David Beckham ready for Korea and Japan will do the same for Michael Owen.

Personally, I would love to see Kevin Nolan get a call-up in the upcoming friendly game against Uruguay.

Kevin has been consistent for the last two seasons and arguably Bolton’s best player. Some of you may beg to differ though, who do you think deserves an England call-up?

Whilst England men prepare for the upcoming World Cup, just six months away, England women will be continuing our aim to secure qualification for the World Cup in 2007.

The first World Cup Qualifying game in 2006 will be the home game against France in March. This game is probably the biggest of the campaign so far; as winning would see us to 12 points with a vital six point advantage over France.

The upcoming friendlies against Sweden in February will be valuable preparation for playing against France, arguably one of the top teams in Europe.

Although it may be a friendly, passions will run high in the Sweden game as we all remember their success in knocking us out of the European Championships last year.

It was a bitter pill to swallow, so I am sure the determination to prevent Sweden getting another victory against us will spur us on to compete well.
