Breaking records is always rewarding as it makes a mark in history that people will always recognise. It was a great week for International women’s football after we won by a staggering 13 goals against Hungary in Tapulca.

This was the highest ever win in International football, so it would be fair to say we got two great rewards out of the game. The three points were definitely vital in order to keep pressure on the top of the group, especially after Holland’s 1-0 win against Austria also takes them to six points.

In addition, breaking the record attracted more attention and coverage to our qualifying campaign. On my way home, coming back from Heathrow on Friday, I was walking towards the tube station in my England tracksuit and got stopped by three people who all congratulated the team on our amazing win.

The positive reactions highlighted the heightened coverage of the win. This was doubly pleasing considering it was an away fixture, which usually tends to have less media coverage.

Hopefully the 13-0 win will have a knock-on effect when the home international fixtures come around so even more fans will turn out to get behind us.

It was a professional performance by the girls. We were conscious not to take our foot off the pedal and maintain good habits during the game. It can be easy in games like that to go through the motions. But overall I think we consciously kept our standards and good match tempo, hence the multiple scorers on the score sheet pressing forward for goals.

Eight different scorers with five goals coming from the midfield department reflect the great attitude of our players and hunger to improve on the score line. Goals most definitely breed confidence so that should keep the team in a great mood for the next fixture against Holland on the 17 November.

On a personal note, I was delighted to score two goals which brings me to three International senior goals overall. They weren’t the most glamorous of goals but they all count.

The match against Holland is a huge game considering we are both sitting on six points. A win against them would hold us in good stead with the higher goal difference also in our favour.

There is still a long way to go in the campaign but a winning trend will keep us on the right path. Hopefully it will continue against the Dutch.
