Hungary v England
World Cup Qualifier
1.30pm, Thursday 27 October 2005
Tapolca, Hungary

England's World Cup preparations were dealt two blows over the weekend with the news that captain Faye White and striker Amanda Barr have been ruled out of Thursday's qualifier away to Hungary in Tapolca.

Arsenal centre back Faye White has been ruled out with a knee injury that she picked up in the UEFA Women's Cup away leg against FFC Frankfurt, and she has been replaced by Birmingham City's Laura Bassett (pictured below), who has five senior caps to her name.

Charlton Athletic striker Amanda Barr has withdrawn from the squad for personal reasons, and has been replaced by Everton midfielder Kelly McDougall who scored in Everton's 5-2 weekend victory over Fulham.

After a tough week of league and cup action, with Arsenal beating Manchester City 4-0 in The FA Women's Premier League Cup yesterday, Head Coach Hope Powell will have been pleased to have seen some of her key players in goalscoring form.

TheFA.com columnist Eniola Aluko scored two fabulous goals in the 3-3 draw against Arsenal on Thursday night, but was upstaged by Kelly Smith's hat-trick. Smith was again on the scoresheet yesterday, as was her namesake Sue Smith for Leeds United in their 3-3 draw with Birmingham City.

Karen Carney's sublime free-kick in yesterday's videoed game for TheFA.com will have buoyed her after the Blues' difficult start to the season, whilst another brace for Jody Handley sees her joint-top of the league goalscoring charts, alongside Doncaster Rovers Belles' Scottish international striker Pauline Hamill.
