The 25-year old from London, who played for Arsenal at just 16 years of age and made history in 2000 by becoming the first professional female footballer in England, makes the move on the back of some superb Euro 2005 displays. 

Having been named the Nationwide International Player of the Year in May, she joins Kelly Smith's former side just before tomorrow's transfer deadline.

Wildcats General Manager Patric Santo Pietro said: "Bringing Rachel to New Jersey is not only a great boost to our team but also an honour for our organization.

"Her experience on the international level and her ability to be dangerous from the flanks will be an invaluable combination for us as we look toward the W-League Championship next month."

Wildcats coach Charlie Naimo said: "Rachel should end up being a key piece of our lineup.

"She’s a dangerous attacking left-sided player and those kind of players are very hard to find. She was great with England at the Algarve Cup and in the Euros and we’re hoping that she can keep that kind of play up with the Wildcats too."

Yankey is slated to make her debut tomorrow night when the Wildcats host the South Jersey Banshees. She will return to Birmingham City for the 2005/06 FA Women's Premier League season.
