Saturday evening sees the Southern Amateur League travel to Coventry, where they will face the Midland Combination (Division One) in The FA National League System Cup Final.
After a splendid Semi-Final victory against the Amateur Football Combination in March, the SAL will now be looking to follow in the footsteps of the Isle Of Man and the Mid-Cheshire League.
Manager Bob Leeds (left) has been involved in amateur football for over 35 years and has a wealth of experience, mainly due to his time with SAL outfit Old Finchleians so challenging for this title will be high on their agenda.
With players selected in his squad from a variety of clubs such as Norsemen, West Wickham, Old Salesians, Nottsborough and Old Finchleians, they will be hoping that they have enough to beat the Midland Combination.
“We know it isn’t going to be an easy game as it’s a Cup Final and everyone out on that pitch will be determined to come off as a winner,” said Leeds.
“It will be good to get up there, play on a decent pitch, in a nice ground and I’m sure all of the players will be looking forward to the experience.
“We just want to make sure that it will be a winning experience.”
Nottsborough striker Alex Ewin was their hero in the Semi-Final, as he bagged both goals in the game held at Dulwich Hamlet’s Champion Hill. He is likely to be joined up front by his club team-mate Nick Stavri, with the pair having formed a successful partnership in the league this season.
Looking to provide them with ammunition is Osman Akkaya, a pacy winger who set up both of Ewin’s Semi-Final goals. The Old Wilsonians player has been a regular throughout the campaign.
