Second Round Qualifying
Monday 8 October 2007
Michael Evans was the Corby Town hero as they beat Raunds Town on penalties in The FA Youth Cup Second Qualifying Round.
Goalkeeper Evans saved two out of three spot kicks as Corby went through 4-1, after the game had finished 2-2 in extra-time.
Corby thought they had won it when Lewis Harman made it 2-1 with just five minutes remaining, but Raunds grabbed an equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time to take the game to the lottery of penalties.
However, Evans was in fine form to ensure his side progressed into the Third Round Qualifying, where they will play either Wellingborough Town or Dunstable Town.
Corby Club Secretary Gerry Lucas said: "This is great for the club especially since the senior team have also got a big game in The FA Cup this weekend."
Elsewhere in the Second Qualifying Round, Woodbridge Town cruised past March Town United 5-0, while Leverstock Green defeated Welwyn Garden City 4-2.
In the Midlands, there were wins for Stourbridge and Bromsgrove Rovers, with Tonbridge Angels, Staines Town and Camberley Town all advancing from the south.
