Oldham Athletic's comprehensive 4-1 win against Lincoln City on Wednesday evening secured the Latics an FA Youth Cup Third Round clash with Sheffield United.

Latics Youth Coach Tony Philliskirk was delighted his team had grabbed the chance to pit their wits against the South Yorkshire side and is already looking forward to the challenge.

"A home tie against a top Academy club will be a great challenge for the lads," said Philliskirk.

The Lancashire side played Lincoln off the park in the clash at Boundary Park, as first half strikes from Liam Dawson and Ryan Brooke put the Latics into a 2-0 lead, but Lincoln's Andy Hutchinson responded by finding the back of the net just before the half-time whistle.

Djeny Bembo-Leta rolled home a third and an own goal from Lincoln defender Lee Welburn sealed the victory for Oldham in the 81st minute of the match.

Elsewhere, Rushden & Diamonds did not let the wet conditions put a dampener on their display as they won 3-0 at Aldershot Town.

Goals in the opening 17 minutes from Jack Higgins and Sam Smith, followed by a second-half strike by Lewis Hilliard, put the game out of Aldershot's reach.

Rushden & Diamonds have not lost a match since September with nine wins and a draw and their unbeaten run continues apace, with this latest victory handing them a Third Round home tie against Colchester United.
