Sunderland face an uphill battle in The FA Youth Cup Semi-Final second leg this Tuesday as they attempt to overturn a two-goal deficit at Manchester City.
The young Black Cats visit the City of Manchester Stadium having lost the first leg at the Stadium Of Light last Thursday.
A brace from Manchester City left-back Ryan McGivern was the difference, but Sunderland coach Ged McNamee believes his team showed enough to suggest they are still in with a chance of reaching The Final.
"I thought in the first half we had the majority of possession and had our chances to score but didn't take them," he said.
"They scored against the run of play but to give credit to Manchester City they came with a game plan and it worked out for them."
McNamee concedes that his team will have to raise their level of performance if they are to get a result against a strong Manchester City side, who also lead their section of the Academy League.
"We know we've got to score and to play better as a team," he added.
"Obviously we're away from home and it will be difficult but we've just got to go out there and be positive.
"We have some good individual players but possibly one or two of them were below par in the first leg. They know they can do a lot better and hopefully they'll show that on the night."
Sunderland will be looking to star striker Martyn Waghorn to supply the goals. The young forward made his senior debut against Manchester United earlier this season and has been in prolific form for the Black Cats' Academy.
The winner of the tie will meet either Chelsea or Aston Villa in The Final.
