Stephen Allen's sensational last minute goal provided the FA Youth Cup's biggest giant-killing act so far this season, sending an ecstatic League Two Shrewsbury into the Fourth Round at the expense of the Premier League's Newcastle United.
Shrewsbury have now won themselves another exciting tie in the next round, against the might of Chelsea.
Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce watched on from the stands at St James's Park as his stars of the future initially piled the pressure on Shrewsbury. But they could not find a way past the inspired Shrewsbury goalkeeper and captain Jasbir Singh.
In a frenetic opening period, James Marwood hit a post for Newcastle from a free-kick and Kazenga LuaLua had a shout for a penalty waved away by referee Stephen Smith.
It was not all one way traffic, though, as Shrewsbury later had the ball in the back of the net through a Dan Evans volley, but the effort was disallowed off for a foul in the build-up.
The match looked to be heading for extra-time, until Allen's 30-yard dipping strike beat a despairing Newcastle goalkeeper Dan Mullen in the 90th minute.
Nigel Vaughan, Head of Youth Development at Shrewsbury, said: "It was a tremendous result, a dream come true for the lads.
"We rode our luck at times, but it was just our night. It was a great team performance, and we'll be trying our best in the next round."
