Second Round Qualifying
Friday 12 October 2007Boreham Wood secured their passage to the Third Qualifying Round of The FA Youth Cup with a dominant display against Buntingford Town at Meadow Park.
A Shane Johnson brace, with strikes from Jon Clements and winger Lewis Donovan proved too much for Buntingford, who found the net courtesy of Ricky Young.
Next up for Boreham Wood are Colney Heath, with the sides competing for a place in the First Round proper.
Academy Director Chris Watters insists there is much more to come from his team, despite this comfortable home win.
“All in all I suppose I can be happy because we are though, but I don’t think we have shown what we are capable of, and what we have shown all season,” he said.
Boreham Wood held a slender 2-1 advantage at half time and Watters admits the hosts needed to raise their game: “The side knew they needed and prove and show what they are capable of,” he said.
“This is the furthest we have been in The FA Youth Cup,” Watters added. “No disrespect to Colney but the next game is a win-able tie.”
“It is about what you do on the night but I think we can go there and hopefully be put in with the big boys. But we don’t want to speak too soon,” Watters added.
