Newcastle followed Liverpool into the Sixth Round of the FA Youth Cup after an extra time winner from Andy Carroll just five minutes before the two teams would have required penalties to separate them.
After taking the lead through Mark Doninger after half an hour, Glenn Roeder saw his young Newcastle side pegged back 16 minutes from time.
But far from being downhearted, they rolled up their sleeves and took the game to the opposition.
Bees keeper Sam Moore made a superb block to deny Dean Critchlow winning the tie in the fourth minute of injury time, and he produced an even better stop to deny Andy Carroll in the 113th minute.
Just when it seemed as though penalties would be needed to settle the contest, Carroll nodded in a thrilling winner in the 115th minute to send Newcastle through - and give them a home tie with either Blackburn Rovers or Brighton & Hove Albion.
Academy Director Roeder told nufc.co.uk: "I just think it's a fantastic achievement by the boys when you consider the average age of the squad and the fact we have so many schoolboys in the side as well.
"There is no doubt we must be one of the youngest, if not the youngest squad, left in the competition, so to get to the last eight is wonderful.
"It was a very tough game. We knew Brentford would make it hard for us, and they did. They are a highly motivated side and we had to stand up and be counted on the night.
"Everyone of them played their part. I couldn't single anyone out for a special mention - they all deserve one."
Watch out for the remaining FA Youth Cup Fifth Round ties yet to be played, with Bolton entertaining Southampton on Friday. Next week Manchester United take on Charlton Athletic, Blackburn host Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City travel to Nottingham Forest.
