FA Youth Cup Third Round
Tuesday 20 December 2005
Leicester City 1-1 Huddersfield Town
(Huddersfield won 5-4 on penalties)
Wrexham 2-5 Southampton

David McGoldrick was sinner turned saint as Southampton made a spectacular start to FA Youth Cup campaign, coming from two goals down to beat Wrexham 5-2.

The Welsh side looked destined to reduce the Saints to rubble when they went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Aaron Braisdell and Matthew Done.

Southampton's night got even worse when McGoldrick missed a penalty on the stroke of half-time, but few could have predicted what was to come in the next 45 minutes.

Josh Dutton-Black pulled one back just after the restart, cutting in from the left before slotting home with his right foot.

McGoldrick, pictured below, then took centre stage as he made amends for his penalty miss.

Twenty minutes from time the powerful front-man levelled for his side, finally converting one of the many chances that fell his way.

Having found his goal-scoring touch the 18-year-old forward exercised it ruthlessly as he slammed three more home in the closing stages to leave his team convincing winners.

Saints' reward is a home tie against Aston Villa.

There was more drama in the night's other tie where Huddersfield Town beat Leicester City on penalties at the Walkers Stadium.

Max Gradel had given Leicester the lead but Huddersfield fought back, equalising courtesy of a deflected strike in the 34th minute.

The Foxes created a host of chances, with England under-16 star Ashley Chambers the scourge of the Huddersfield defence, although the closest he came was hitting the post in the second half.

But it was Huddersfield who triumphed on spot-kicks.

One to watch: David McGoldrick (Southampton)

The former Notts County forward has impressed since moving to the South Coast and the powerful frontman did his reputation no harm with a four star performance against Wrexham.

Showing the form that won him a Carling Cup outing outing against Mansfield earlier in the season, The Englishman put a missed penalty behind him by notching four times in the second half.
