FA Youth Cup - 6th Rd Proper

1 Middlesbrough v Tottenham Hotspur (7.00)
2 Manchester United v Tranmere Rovers (7.30) (at Altrincham FC)

We're now very much at the business end of this season's FA Youth Cup competition, with one club already through to the semi-finals.

Sebastian Ndombe's 55th-minute goal for Charlton Athletic proved to be enough to beat highly fancied Leeds United before nearly 2,500 fans at Elland Road last week.

The Young Addicks have never won the Youth Cup but they did reach the Final in 1987, losing narrowly to Coventry City. Now they can look forward to a two-legged semi-final against the winners of this week's Manchester United v Tranmere Rovers tie.

The three remaining quarter finals are all being played this week. Manchester City host West Ham United at Hyde United FC tonight (7.00) and the two matches on Thursday feature Middlesbrough v Tottenham Hotspur (7.00) and Manchester United v Tranmere Rovers at Altrincham FC (7.30).

The current Young Hammers include a Sealey (George), a Ferdinand (Anton), a Carrick (Graeme) and a Cole (Mitchell) – so they should go far!

They've had a fairly easy run in this season's competition, with home wins against Oadby Town (4-1), Fulham (6-1) and Norwich City (2-1). Man City away is going to test their credentials to the limit.

Especially as City knocked out Millwall, conquerors of mighty Arsenal, at The Den.

Tottenham, who have ground out 1-0s against Swindon Town and Crystal Palace in the last two rounds, should find it equally as tough at Middlesbrough.

Manchester United have won the Youth Cup eight times - with legends like Best and Beckham cherishing their medals - and the current crop will be expected to get past Rovers.
