Lowestoft Town made FA Vase history by reaching the Quarter Finals for the first time with a 2-1 win over Dunston Federation at Crown Meadow.
After racing into a two-goal lead, Lowestoft’s injury-ravaged side let Dunston back into the game, but a heroic defensive display saw the hosts hang on to book their place in the next round.
Joint-manager Ady Gallagher couldn’t hide his delight at the final whistle after guiding his side into unchartered territory in The Vase.
“We are making history now,” Gallagher beamed.
“We played a real top-class side today and came out on top. I couldn’t be happier.
“Everyone is buzzing - this is a fantastic result for the club. We have had injuries and a midweek game which have hampered our preparations, so I am obviously delighted.”
Lowestoft have certainly saved their best form for the cup competitions, as they sit in mid-table obscurity in the Ridgeons League.
“This keeps our season going,” admitted Gallagher.
“Our league form has not been good enough but to have booked our place in the Quarter Finals is fantastic for the club.
“We don’t know who we'll get in the next round but no matter what, we have to concentrate on ourselves. I don’t want to change things too much.
“Wembley is the dream and having come this far you begin to believe you can make it there.”
