Tiptree United have their sights set firmly on a trip up Wembley Way after kicking-off their FA Vase campaign in emphatic style.

The Jam Makers, who played in our featured game in The FA Cup EP last month, thrashed Sileby Rangers 6-1 on Saturday and hope the result is a sign of things to come.

Gary Hill put in a man-of-the-match performance for United, grabbing a hat-trick that included an emphatic overhead kick, while Tommy English, Jamie Arlick and Lewin Ward chipped in with the team's other goals.

John Wisby, Tiptree club secretary, said: "Hopefully it's the start of a journey that can take us a long way. The team was excellent today.

"If I am honest, the game was one-sided but we go into the next round under no illusions. We will face Barking and it will be a very difficult match.

"We got to The Final in 2002 but missed out on going to Wembley as it was being rebuilt. This year we hope we can get there.

"The Vase would be a tremendous trophy to win. It's a great competition and we are looking to go as far as we can."

Another high scoring game came at Brocstedes Park where Ashton Athletic trounced Rossington Main 6-0 while Norwich United also grabbed six against Huntingdon Town.

Morpeth Town got back to winning ways with a 5-0 victory over North Shields and Henley Town defeated Reading Town 5-1.

Lye Town and Southam United will be forced to fight it out again after their thrilling encounter ended in a 3-3 draw at the Sports Ground. Other draws in the opening qualifying round of the Vase involved Wantage Town and Hamble ASSC whose match finished 2-2.
