Almondsbury Town manager Paul Weeks revealed his delight at his side's FA Vase Second Round performance - despite seeing them crash to a 4-2 defeat against holders Truro City.
Weeks was left proud of the way his players performed against their heavyweight opponents and admits he felt Town were the better side on the afternoon.
However, after watching Truro run out winners in extra-time, Weeks conceded that Almondsbury ran out of steam after a fiercely fought 90 minutes.
"We played superbly today and I'm immensely proud of all my players - they gave everything.
"In the end, extra-time just killed us. We worked so hard throughout the match to compete with them and make up for that extra bit of quality that Truro boast, but I really think we more than matched them.
"After the game, the Truro chairman told me that we're the best team they've played in the last three years, so it's a massive compliment from a club with their stature."
Weeks, whose side started the day unbeaten, gave their visitors a real fright when Justin Bishop smashed home an exquisite scissor kick in the first-half.
But Truro, who have yet to lose this season and sit 12 points clear at the top of the Toolstation Western Premier League, hit back in the second-half to seize the initiative.
After being a goal ahead at the break, Almondbury suddenly found themselves chasing the game as Truro took a 2-1 lead with some 20 minutes to go.
But Bishop's second of the afternoon stunned Truro and forced the game into extra-time, before the home side's legs gave way and the holders took advantage.
"We just ran out of steam in the end," said Weeks. "It was a cracking game and a great advert for the competition.
"It's frustrating that we had to face each other so early in the competition because it felt like a final out there today. We're two of the top teams in the competition so to go out so early is disappointing.
"But we gave it our best shot and I think had it been a boxing match, we probably would have won on points."
