Causeway United v Cogenhoe United
The FA Carlsberg Vase
Fourth Round Proper
Saturday 20 January 2007
£1,500 to each winning club
Cogenhoe United will be hoping to maintain their excellent away form in this year's FA Carlsberg Vase as they travel to Causeway United in one of the ties of the Fourth Round.
The United Counties League side followed up their impressive home results earlier in the competition with even better performances away at Kirkley, who they beat 2-1, and at Fakenham Town, who were thrashed 5-1.
And United manager Adam Sandy, who has been with the club for three years, is hoping his players can repeat their exploits on their travels on Saturday.
"We would prefer to be at home, but playing away hasn't been too bad so far," explained Sandy. "The game at Fakenham was as well as we have played team wise.
"Our strikers were bang on form. We are missing one of them for Saturday but I'm sure whoever comes will do a good job for us. It's a squad game.
"We're quite an attacking side so we'll be going all out to beat them. We won't go with a negative attitude. We're not good enough to sit back and try to get result.
"Our intensity in the other games has surprised the opposition and hopefully it will again."
A win for the Northampton-based club will see both them and Sandy move into uncharted territory where the Vase is concerned.
The 2005 UCL champions achieved their best ever run in The FA Cup last season, and Sandy is keen to better that feat.
He added: "Chasetown knocked us out 4-3 in a Third Qualifying Round replay in the FA Cup last season. It was gut wrenching.
"But if we can nick a result on Saturday we'll be in the last 16 and then anything can happen. We have to win first but it's a one-off game and we're really looking forward to it. We've never been to the Fourth Round before and the whole club is buzzing.
"Regardless of the result, we'll have a good night. The chairman has made the last two coach trips in the Vase really enjoyable and I'm sure he will again. We always have a good time away from home."
