Barwell v Cradley Town
The FA Vase in partnership with Carlsberg
Second Round Qualifying
Saturday 25 September 2004 - 3.00pm

£600 to each winning club

The Midland Football Alliance side, based in the village of Barwell, near Hinckley, will entertain Cradley Town on Saturday.

Although the Liverpool keeper never kept goal for Barwell, he has been a long-time fan of the village club, where his father Eddie is assistant groundsman, and opened a new stand there a few seasons ago.

Shirley Brown, secretary of Barwell, said: "As a youngster, Chris played for Barwell Juniors and from there he went to Leicester City.

"Before he went to Liverpool, he would often come and watch a game if Coventry City weren’t playing. He was up here a few weeks ago with his dad.

"He is a great supporter of the club and everyone here has followed his progress over the years. He’s definitely Barwell’s most famous son."

Chris said: "Although I never played for Barwell, it’s my hometown club and I have supported them for as long as I can remember. My father Eddie has been a fan for years and now helps out at the ground.

"I used to enjoy going to watch their home games whenever I could whilst I was at Coventry City. It’s not so easy now I’m at Liverpool, but I’m always interested to know how they are getting on.

"It would be great for them to have a decent run in The FA Vase and I would like to wish the team good luck in their opening game on Saturday."
