Tamworth, the lowest-ranked side in the competition, suffered late FA Trophy heartache as they crashed out at the Quarter Final stage to high-flying Aldershot Town.

The tie looked to be heading for a replay, after Lambs’ substitute Matt Williams had cancelled out Rhys Day’s opener. However, Kirk Hudson’s goal in the 93rd minute spared the Conference Premier leaders’ blushes.

Tamworth, on the crest of a wave with just one defeat in their last eight games, set their stall out to frustrate Gary Waddock’s table-toppers.

But despite some brutal challenges in the middle of the park, the Hampshire club kept their cool and took the lead through Day’s bullet header.

However, their lead lasted less than a minute as some shambolic defending presented Williams with the easiest of chances to level the scores.

With his side pushing for promotion, Waddock would have hoped to avoid another fixture in his already busy schedule and so was no doubt indebted to Hudson for settling the tie with a moment of late magic.

Torquay United cruised into the last four with a 4-1 crushing of Crawley Town at Plainmoor, where the visitors' resistance lasted barely 20 minutes as Roscoe D’Sane put the hosts ahead.

The west-country side were left frustrated for the remainder of the first-half but on-loan striker Kaid Mohamed’s second-half brace put them firmly in control.

Lee Phillips added a fourth on 77 minutes before Jamie Cook netted a consolation from the penalty spot.

Burton Albion were held to a goalless draw at the Pirelli Stadium by Ebbsfleet United and must now negotiate a tricky replay at Stonebridge Road next week.
