Winning clubs receive £4,000

Just over five years on from their famous FA Cup victory against QPR and Vauxhall Motors are eyeing another notable scalp in the shape of Burton Albion, this time in The FA Trophy.

The Conference North side have undergone something of a facelift in terms of personnel since their penalty shoot-out victory at Loftus Road in 2002 and are currently thriving under the management of former Wolves striker Andy Mutch.

Mutch, who is remembered for sharing a prolific partnership with Steve Bull during his time at Molineux, has used his extensive contacts book to tempt former Football League professionals such as Ged Brannan, Kevin Rapley and Stuart Whittaker to Rivacre Park.

"Andy's experience has been invaluable," said chairman Alan Bartlam. "He's helped bring in players like Ged Brannan, who used to play for Manchester City. He is still a tremendous passer of a football, a fantastic player who is a great example to the youngsters.

"He and Andy both give great advice to the younger players. Andy swapped roles with his assistant Carl Macauley recently. I don't think he expected to be in this position but he's really enjoying it and the players have really responded.

"It's been a difficult period for the club with a lot of player upheaval but I'm really happy with the squad we have now. There is a lot of quality here."

Burton, currently fourth in the Conference and unbeaten away from home all season in the league, will provide a stern test of Mutch's upwardly mobile side.

Bartlam remains confident of causing an upset but has nothing but respect for the set-up at Burton, a club who he views as the example for his own team to follow.

"Burton are an inspiration to us really. A few years ago they were playing at the same level as us and we've seen them progress through the ranks.

"They seem to improve year on year and in Nigel Clough they have a smashing manager. I've met him a couple of times and he is a smashing chap and a really talented manager.

"It's going to be hard to get one over him on Saturday but I'm always hopeful."
