There was no fairytale ending for Conference South side Salisbury City in The FA Carlsberg Trophy Quarter-Finals on Saturday.

City boss Nick Holmes was hoping to see his men keep alive their hopes of a League and Cup double, but they were well beaten by a Stevenage Borough team looking to gain promotion from the Conference.

Daryl McMahon opened the scoring midway through the first half, with Steve Morrison doubling the lead on the hour mark, before Jamie Slabber completed the scoring in the dying minutes to give the Hertfordshire outfit a comfortable 3-0 home victory.

Elsewhere, Kidderminster ended a three-game losing run as they came from a goal behind to beat Halifax Town 3-1. Trailing at the break, two goals in six minutes from James Constable and Gavin Hurren turned the tie round in the Harriers’ favour, with Russell Penn sealing the win in stoppage time.

Gravesend & Northfleet had taken their place in the last eight as a result of AFC Wimbledon being thrown out of the competition - however, their reprieve was short-lived as they fell 3-0 at Northwich Victoria.

Gareth Griffiths opened the scoring in the 31st minute, with Paul Brayson and Matthew Shaw both scoring within the space of five second-half minutes to secure victory and a passage into the last four for the northerners.

The final Quarter-Final takes place on Sunday afternoon and will see 2005 and 2006 winners Grays Athletic looking to make it a hat-trick of victories when they travel to Welling United.
