Worcester City are through to the First Round Proper of The FA Trophy after they beat Conference North rivals, Blyth Spartans, 5-4 on penalties.

The match, played in atrocious conditions, was as tight an affair as the shoot-out that followed with the two teams battling out an entertaining 1-1 draw.

City dominated the first half with striker Craig Wilding having a goal disallowed for a dubious offside.

But with only minutes to the interval Spartans took the lead through a sensational strike from Liam Gildea. The big forward picked the ball up on the edge of the area to unleash an unstoppable strike into the top corner.

Despite that set-back the home side continued to take the game to Spartans and were rewarded with an equaliser early in to the second period. The tireless Wilding heading in from close range.

Both teams had chances to win but with the pitch almost unplayable it was left to the lottery of penalties to confirm Worcester City as the winner. They now meet either Barrow or Hucknall Town who meet on Tuesday.

Elsewhere Nuneaton Borough won their first game in The FA Trophy in 11 years with a hard fought 2-1 win away to Bradford.

Borough's goals came from Neil Moore and Gez Murphy. Bradford pulled a goal back with a penalty from Neil Ross just after half-time but Borough held on for the win.

Nuneaton will now face Redditch United in the First Round.

The match between Northwood and Histon was postponed.
