Third Round Qualifying

Winning Clubs receive £3,000

Kettering Town produced the performance of the day in the Third Round of The FA Carlsberg Trophy on Saturday as they ruthlessly swept aside Clitheroe 10-1 at home.

Rene Howe, who enjoyed a trial at Premiership Aston Villa last season, was chief tormentor for the visitors, slamming in an incredible five goals as Morell Maison’s Town ran riot.

Jean Paul Marna bagged a brace for the Northamptonshire side, with Andre Boucaud, Andy Hall and Craig Westcarr all chipping in to add to the rout.

James Dean pulled one back for Clitheroe with five minutes remaining but nothing could dampen Town secretary Mike Chase’s day: “We’re delighted with the result,” he beamed. “We’d been suffering from a bit of an FA Cup hangover and Morell had come in for a bit of flak but the lads really performed for him today.

“Performances have been good of late and I think it was only a matter of time before somebody was on the wrong end of a hiding. Unfortunately for Ciltheroe, it was them.”

He added: “Hopefully in the next round we can get a local team. Someone like Rushden & Diamonds!”

Meanwhile, Farsley Celtic were comfortable 2-1 winners away to Skelmersdale United.

Celtic’s Craig Midgeley opened the scoring from the penalty spot on the half- hour mark after Simeon Bambrooke was felled, and they doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second half when Ryan Crossley fired in from close range.

Skem’s Steve Rimmer headed in well into stoppage time to give the home side hope of a comeback but it proved to be the last action of the game.

Afterwards, Celtic secretary Keith Huggins said: “Both keepers had a couple of saves to make in the game but I think we were well in control. We’re looking forward to the draw on Monday.”

Elsewhere, Merthyr Tydfil recorded the same score-line at home to Wealdstone while Weston-super-Mare managed a narrow 1-0 victory against Cirencester.

AFC Wimbledon and Eastleigh together with Bath City and Tooting & Mitcham will need to do it all again after they drew 1-1 in their respective games.

The draw for the First Round Proper will be made at Soho Square on Monday and we'll have it here on TheFA.com from 1pm.
