The former Celtic and Barnsley midfielder made headlines in 1998 when he steered non-league Emley to the Third Round of The FA Cup and a tie against West Ham United.

And he’s at it again with Worksop Town, who have forged a passage into the quarter finals of The FA Trophy.

The Conference North side were named Carlsberg’s ‘Team of the Round’ in The FA Trophy after despatching Conference National leaders Accrington Stanley on penalties in a Fourth Round replay.

But the phlegmatic Scot was at pains to give the credit for a stunning victory to his team who were ‘so focused and full of self belief’.

"The best laid plans can go awry," he said. "But without planning you have nothing.

"The other thing I always consider in the equation – especially in cup matches – is that it’s not always the best team that wins.

"If you can play with your head and not your heart, if you can know all there is to know about your opposition, the odds are a little more in your favour."

Glavin would not be drawn on who were the outstanding players in his team.

"They’re exactly that – a team," he said. "There’s no question individuals make the difference, but in each Trophy game different players have emerged.

"There wasn’t a bad player on the pitch against Accrington."

One of the heroes was ‘keeper Adam Sollitt, who saw his side through in the shoot-out against Accrington, but Glavin has lost his number one between the posts following a freak accident.

Sollitt is certain to be out for the rest of the season but Glavin has every confidence in his young replacement, David Radcliffe.

"Boreham Wood are an unknown quantity, but their record is superb and we’ll have to be at our best to get a result," he admitted. "They are no mugs, but hopefully we’ll have done our homework."
