Winning clubs receive £1,300

This weekend saw 150 non-league teams compete in The FA Trophy First Round Qualifying as clubs go on their quest for glory.

The 75 ties played produced some fantastic matches with a total of 201 goals and plenty of action.

Ryman Premier League team AFC Wimbledon made their way to the next stage with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kings Lynn. The only goal was scored by defender Antony Howard on 77 minutes in front of over 1700 spectators at The Fan’s Stadium.

Howard headed powerfully home from inside the box from a corner into the top left corner of the net and the south London team held off their Norfolk opponents to book their passage into the next round.

Dons manager Dave Anderson was thrilled with the victory and said: “It's great just to get a win, and I'm delighted for the lads.

He added: “To be honest, we possibly didn't play as well as we have in the last couple of games, but this time round we got something out of it.

"You can't fault the players' commitment over the past few games, and the fans have been great so it's nice to get something for them.”

They will meet Ramsgate in the Second Round Qualifying after the Kent League team cruised to a 4-2 victory over Northwood. It is the furthest Ramsgate have got in the competition in their history and manager Jim Ward can now look forward to a dream-tie and financial bonus when they face AFC Wimbledon at home on Saturday 12 November.

Elsewhere, Ryman Premier League leaders Hampton and Richmond went out of the competition after a 2-0 home defeat by Ryman Isthmian League team Newport Isle of Wight.

But Staines who are currently second in the Ryman Premier League had no such problems in going into the next round after they beat Wivenhoe 2-0 at home.
