The Gay Meadow gaffer has lifted his players after Saturday's demoralising draw with Forest Green Rovers by reminding them of their recent run of just two defeats in 21 League and cup games.

But Quinn's note of optimism has come with a warning that individuals performing below their potential will lose their places with several changes potentially planned for tomorrow night.

"I've got to pick the lads up because we've got a big match tomorrow and we can't afford to dwell on it too much because it can affect you.

"We've got to remember that we've only lost a couple of games out of 20 or so, so we must stay positive.

"It's disappointing that after coming off the back of such a good run that one or two aren't playing to their potential.

"I know who they are as much as the fans do, I'm just as frustrated as they are and you're pulling your hair out at some of the things they do."

Quinn, who maintains that champions elect Chester can still be caught, insisted that ranting and raving was not the answer to his players' off-days.

"It's got to be constructive criticism and you've got to give players challenges," he said.

"Gone are the days when you can use the hairdryer effect, you can't get in people's faces, call them all sorts and then expect them to perform.

"Times have changed and it's a different culture now.

"You need to tell them what they're doing wrong and how they can put it right.

"Then you give them chance to put it right and if they don't they won't stay in the team.

"We'll have to look at Telford's shape and we may have to make one or two changes."

Shrewsbury, who now trail Chester by 14 points with two games in hand, will be looking for a Trophy quarter-final pick-me-up during their first visit of the season to the New Bucks Head.

Other than Sam Aiston, who is injured and suspended, and Jody Banim, who is cup-tied, Quinn has a full squad to pick from for the replay.
