Paddock know that they will only have a short trip to make to the Final, should they progress from Sunday’s Semi-Final clash with Hetton Lyons.

The Huyton-based team take on the former winners at Marine FC’s Arriva Stadium and are hoping that their relative anonymity will prove a crucial advantage in the game.

With the Final being staged at Anfield, home of Liverpool FC, all of the Paddock players know that there will be a dream day out in their hometown should they progress and manager Billy Owens admits that it is a great incentive for everyone involved.

“We have a couple of Reds in the team, and a couple of Evertonians too,” he said.

“So it’s a real divided camp, but for any player to have the chance of playing at Anfield is a great occasion and even the Blues are hoping we can get through and play in the Final there.”

In opposition are the 2006 Sunday Cup winners Hetton Lyons, who boast a string of ex-professionals and non-league footballers in their ranks, but the team from the Liverpool and District Sunday League, who were only formed in 1998 know that as a relatively unknown quantity, it may be an advantage.

“We are a relatively young team in terms of The FA Sunday Cup and this is only the second year in which we have been involved,” added Owens.

“Many of the other teams are well known in this competition and really established in the game in their own regions.

“Not a lot is known about us really, so I suppose that has worked to our advantage and there is a great team spirit amongst the lads which always helps too.

“It has been a tremendous achievement for us to get this far in the competition and it is a game we are very much looking forward to playing.”
