Glapwell manager Les McJannet was delighted with ‘a solid team performance’ but reserved special praise for his ‘immense’ captain Craig Mitchell, after they won 2-1 at Market Drayton Town in Tuesday night's FA Cup Second Round Qualifying Replay.
"It was a good contest," McJannet said. "We were a bit nervous going into the match, as we only had one substitute, so it didn't help when I had to take off our scorer after 15 minutes because of an injury.
"It was not a pretty game and I am sure Market Drayton will be disappointed as they had a lot of pressure, but our defence and goalkeeper were in good form."
Glapwell won the game with two goals in the first half. The first was scored from a Mark Varley penalty, before captain Craig Mitchell added a second shortly before half-time.
It was Mitchell's performance in particular that McJannet singled out, adding: "It was a good team performance, but the captain was immense - a real example to the rest of the lads."
Glapwell have won all five games so far in the Northern Counties East Football League, but their FA Cup exploits mean they have played four fewer league games than some of their rivals.
McJannet is not complaining, but pointed out: "We have an FA Vase game on Saturday too, so it would be nice to play a few league games so we don't fall too far behind."
Elsewhere, in Tuesday night replay action, Merthyr Tydfil won 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw at AFC Totton and Dartford also won a shoot-out (4-1) following another nil-nil scoreline at Camberley Town.
Bromley were 4-2 winners after extra-time against Aylesbury, Chasetown beat Cambridge City also after extra-time and Hitchin Town were top scorers on the night as they hit five goals past Haverhill Rovers.
