Bishop's Cleeve manager Paul Collicutt has spoken of his disappointment following his side’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat at the hands of Hamworthy United on Wednesday night.
Collicutt had hoped for a quieter evening following Saturday’s thrilling six-goal draw on the road and he certainly had that as despite having the lion’s share of possession, the hosts rarely tested the Hamworthy rearguard and were eventually eliminated thanks to a solitary goal.
He said: "We dominated from start to finish, but didn’t create enough clear-cut chances to win the game.
"In the second half we were camped outside their goal-mouth. It was just one of those games. Even if we were there now we still couldn’t have scored."
Bishop's Cleeve have failed to score on only one other occasion this season, adding to Collicutt’s disappointment at the lack of efficiency in front of goal.
"We pride ourselves on being an attacking team, unfortunately tonight we couldn’t turn our dominance into goals," he said.
The Villagers boss believes his side were not lacking in enterprise, but were wasteful in the final third, affording Hamworthy goalkeeper Martin Peters a quiet evening at Kayte Lane.
However, showing grace in defeat, Collicutt believes Hamworthy’s performances over the two games warranted a place in the next round.
"It was Hamworthy’s night and they deserve it," he admitted.
"They now have a nice local derby against Eastleigh in the next round, which will give everyone a lift."
Elsewhere in Wednesday night’s replays, Hendon advanced to the next round with a 3-2 victory at Avely, after the sides had shared a 1-1 weekend draw at Claremont Road.
Worthing travelled to Croydon and were rewarded for their perseverance with a 1-0 victory to book their place in the Second Round qualifying.
Harrogate Railway comprehensively beat Chester-Le-Street Town thanks to a three-goal haul to which the visitors could find no reply.
Barton Rovers travelled to the Rockingham Triangle Stadium but were on the receiving end of a 3-1 thumping by Corby Town.
