At Villa Park on Saturday, a Wayne Rooney inspired Manchester United eased past a stubborn Watford side who were better value than the 4-1 scoreline suggests.

Rooney put the Reds ahead with a stunning strike before Hameur Bouazza equalised with an acrobatic overhead kick.

But United were too strong and booked a place at Wembley thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo tap-in, Rooney's second and Kieran Richardson's cool finish.

It was a much closer affair at Old Trafford 24 hours later where Chelsea needed extra-time to finally end Blackburn Rovers' dream of reaching the Final.

Michael Ballack was Chelsea's hero, clinically planting the ball into the bottom corner to ensure it was a blue day in Manchester.

Earlier, Frank Lampard's opener had been cancelled out by Jason Roberts who cleverly diverted Morten Gamst Pederson's free-kick past the excellent Petr Cech.

Next stop - Wembley!
