The FA Cup Final is turning into a Peterborough United fathers and sons' day out after Alfie Potter decided to follow in the footsteps of team-mate Craig Mackail-Smith by deciding to take his dad to Wembley.
Potter hit the headlines in the Fourth Round when, on loan at Havant and Waterlooville, he stunned Anfield by scoring to put the non-League side 2-1 ahead.
Liverpool finally hit their stride to run out 5-2 winners but it was Havant and Potter who stole the headlines.
Potter swapped shirts with Steven Gerrard at full-time and a week later, after being nominated as one of the players of the round, won the majority of the fans' votes. His prize is a VIP day to The Cup Final in May, courtesy of sponsors E.ON.
"It’s a fantastic award to achieve and I’ll be taking my dad to The Final with me," said the midfielder. "It’ll be a father and son outing as my team-mate Craig Mackail-Smith won it the round before me, and he’s taking his dad too."
Potter, an Arsenal fan, received his award at the Peterborough training ground having returned there once his loan deal expired.
The FA Cup Player of the Round award, sponsored by E.ON, is presented to the outstanding player at each stage of competition, starting from the First Qualifying Round all the way to the Semi-Final.
Player of the Round winners will receive VIP hospitality for themselves and their guest at The FA Cup Final on Saturday 17 May 2008.
The winner of each award will be presented with a solid silver salver along with a kit bag of training equipment which he can donate to a local school of his choice.
