Birmingham City and England Under-21 striker Cameron Jerome is heading back to his roots this weekend, with the Blues being sent on an FA Cup trail to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
Jerome was born and brought up in the West Yorkshire town and even played for the Terriers as a schoolboy before drifting out of their Academy in his teens.
He eventually pitched up at Cardiff City and Huddersfield’s loss proved to be the Bluebirds’ gain as he showed some fine form for the Welshmen before sealing a £3 million move to St.Andrews in the summer of 2006.
Now he goes back to face Huddersfield for the first time in his career and it is a match that the 21-year-old is looking forward to, with plenty of his old acquaintances in attendance.
"I am looking forward to going back,” admitted Jerome.
"I have a lot of family and friends up there, so it's going to be interesting.
"For the lower teams, it's all about drawing the big sides, especially at home with the better atmosphere attracting a few extra fans.
"The game has that extra spice and there is that extra incentive to prove yourself against players from a higher level.
"I remember when I was at Cardiff, I always wanted to draw a Premiership team.”
Town boss Andy Ritchie (pictured left) certainly knows that his side will have to be on the ball if they are to turn ‘giant-killers’ this weekend and he’s more than wary of the danger that Jerome offers.
"I'm sure young Cameron Jerome is relishing coming back here to play against his home-town club - if he plays,” said Ritchie.
"It's possible they could use a few fringe players, but it will be a big challenge and we will have to weather the storm.
“We know it’s going to be a difficult game. I’ve just been watching the DVD of their defeat against Manchester United on New Year’s Day but I don’t know whether that will offer any pointers.
“They did very well in the second half and they have some good players.”
